The transfer window has closed for the majority of top leagues and we can now evaluate which clubs made the biggest profits this summer. It was a historic window with over €10 billion spent on transfers with Manchester City breaking the record for highest expenditure in one window and Chelsea for biggest income.
While most attention amongst supporters focuses on new arrivals, club chiefs are under no illusions that outgoings are equally important, especially with increased scrutiny with financial fair play regulations. Therefore, we’ve analysed which clubs had the highest net spends this summer – data is accurate as of 10am on September 4th. We’ve produced a graphic for the top 20 clubs, but you can view the full list below which will update and remain completely accurate.
Which clubs made the highest net spend: Summer 2026/27
Unsurprisingly, the top 20 list is dominated by English Premier League clubs with seven in the top 10 and Liverpool occupying the top spot. The Reds’ business has been subjected to much criticism but their net spend of €238.4 million is the highest of any club in the world. Andoni Iraola’s men spend €269.6m on new arrivals, while raising just €31.2m through player sales. English clubs fill the top four positions with Tottenham (€202m) second, Ipswich Town (€201m) third and Manchester City fourth (€189m).
As the graphic above illustrates, Real Madrid (€167m) complete the top five with an expenditure of €225m and income of €58.5m – it’s worth noting that Transfermarkt splits first-team and academy sales with Madrid bringing in €22m through the latter. Interestingly, all three promoted Premier League clubs had a higher net spend than Manchester United. Juventus are the highest ranked Serie A club, Paris FC the only Ligue 1 representative with no Bundesliga clubs featuring. Galatasaray and Fenerbahce rank 18th and 20th respectively.
