A weather expert has issued their verdict as to whether the UK could experience heatwave conditions at the start of September. The Met Office says that today Brits can expect a “few showers around during the day, mainly in the north, otherwise plenty of fine weather with some sunny spells”. It added: “Feeling pleasantly warm in the sunshine, and as winds ease.” Tonight, is predicted to be dry in many eastern and southeastern areas, with “clear spells and gentle winds”.
“Elsewhere becoming cloudier and breezy, even windy in the northwest, with some showery rain,” experts say. On Sunday, many places will be “starting rather cloudy with some showery rain”, the Met Office adds. “Rain becoming mostly confined towards the north and far west, where windy,” it says. “Very warm sunshine developing in the south and southeast.”
From Monday to Wednesday, the outlook reads: “Rainbands moving southeast across the UK on Monday, followed by sunshine and showers on Tuesday.

“Rain heaviest in the north, where gales possible. Generally drier, brighter with lighter winds midweek.”
Looking further ahead, the Met Office expects “a trend towards more widely settled conditions seems likely from around next weekend and beyond, as high pressure becomes increasingly influential in the vicinity of the UK”.
“This should lead to longer, drier interludes, especially in the south and southwest, with any rain or showers more likely towards the north and east,” it added.
It added as regards the end of September and early October: “High pressure initially close to the UK, with a continuation of more settled conditions at times, may eventually start to weaken its influence on the weather towards the end of September.”
This will mean temperatures “will likely be a little above average overall, with relatively cool nights possible at first tending to reduce in frequency later in the period”.
The BBC’s Lead Weather Presenter, Sarah Keith-Lucas, has examined on the broadcaster’s website whether a heatwave could be in store for Britain as Europe is Europe sees temperatures of 40C.
She said “warmer air will push into the UK this weekend as winds turn more southerly”, but this will “not be as extreme”.
Sunday will be the warmest day of the weekend, the specialist wrote, with temperatures across England and Wales expected to be in the low to mid 20s.
However, parts of the southeast could reach 27 or 28C.
“The warmth is forecast to fade quickly as fresher Atlantic air and rain-bearing fronts are likely to arrive through next week,” Ms Keith-Lucas added.
“A return to heatwave conditions is unlikely through the next 10 days.”
