Lamine Yamal was the big news from Saturday morning’s training session. The forward did not take to the field and remained in the gym, raising doubts over whether he would be included in the squad to face Valencia.
Hansi Flick later moved to reassure supporters, saying that he had taken a knock, and it was felt better for him to train at a lower intensity. He’ll travel with the team and will be assessed.

Yamal, Jesus, Rodri…
It remains to be seen whether Yamal will wear the captain’s armband for the first time on Sunday or have to wait for one of the coming games, but he is expected to make the squad against Valencia. His teammates selected him as fifth captain, behind Raphinha, Pedri, Eric García and Frenkie de Jong. That means he would wear the armband if none of the four were on the field.

Flick was able to work with both Gavi and Gabriel Jesus, with the latter in line to be named in the squad for the first time. Rodri, meanwhile, is pushing for a place in the starting lineup after coming off the bench in the games so far.
