FC Barcelona will make their final appearance at Mestalla stadium on Sunday when they face Valencia in week 4 of La Liga. If all goes to schedule, the Valencian club will begin the 2027/28 season at the Nou Mestalla stadium, bringing to a close more than a century of history at their current stadium.
Opened on 20 May 1923, Mestalla will be Valencia’s home for the final season in 2026/27 after more than 3,000 matches at the ground, some of which form part of FC Barcelona’s long and illustrious history.
115 Barça games at Mestalla
In 115 visits to Mestalla, Barça’s record is impressive with 43 wins, 30 draws and 42 defeats. If we look just at La Liga that record is 37 wins, 23 draws and 31 defeats in 91 matches, scoring 145 goals and conceding 145. There have many memorable contests between Barça and Valencia at the famous stadium in the league, but the blaugranes have also made their mark at Mestalla in other competitions.
Copa del Rey finals
The famous stadium has been the venue for the Copa del Rey final on no less than 10 occasions, seven of which involved FC Barcelona, the blaugranes winning four of those finals.
1926 was the first year that Barça featured in the Copa del Rey final in Mestalla, beating Atlético Madrid 3-2 to claim the trophy. In 1990 the blaugranes repeated the feat in the stadium, only this time defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in the final.
Eight years later in 1998 Barça won the trophy once again in Mestalla, beating Mallorca on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time. The most recent win came in 2009 with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey final in Valencia.

This Sunday Mestalla will open its doors for the final time to the blaugranes with Hansi Flick’s side determined to mark the occasion with a victory.
