The new captaincy structure for Barcelona for the 2026/27 season has been unveiled by the club. With the departure of club captain and vice-captain Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo, respectively, it was very much required that the club find some new captains to lead the team. This task was accomplished by manager Hansi Flick.
The New Captains Revealed
Brazilian star Raphinha has been formally appointed as the first captain of the side after earning the trust of the changing room. It is Barcelona’s star midfielder Pedri who assumes the vice-captaincy of the team.
The final three spots were decided through a direct squad vote. The remaining captains are:
Eric Garcia: Back in the fold and ready for an enormous leadership task.Frenkie de Jong: The veteran Dutch midfielder retains his position as an important voice in the changing room.Lamine Yamal: Easily the biggest shocker in the list! Though he is just 19 years of age, the young wonder has managed to earn the respect of his peers well enough to make it into the five captains’ list.
It is a combination of youthful vigour and experience that clearly reflects the way in which Hansi Flick intends to steer his team through the new season.
