AMC+ has unveiled a first look at The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4, and this is the one that counts. The network confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025 that the fourth season would be the last, so every image released from here forward is part of a goodbye.
Norman Reedus returns as Daryl and Melissa McBride returns as Carol Peletier, with the story staying in Spain. AMC’s description is spare. The two of them cross a devastated Spanish landscape, holding onto hope and onto each other as uncertainty about their future grows. The first-look material is selling scale and mood rather than plot, which is the right read for a show that has always used ruins older than anything the original series could stage.
Jimmy Smits enters the apocalypse
Jimmy Smits joins the final season as Captain Alejandro Perkins, a former U.S. Navy officer and medical doctor who has worked out his own way of surviving, and thriving, after the collapse. That second word is the interesting one. Plenty of people in this universe survive. The ones described as thriving usually got there by making decisions the audience is asked to weigh.
The end of a very long walk
Reedus has played Daryl since 2010. McBride first appeared as Carol the same year. Ending this show with the two of them together is less a four-season payoff than the closing stretch of one of the longest running character pairings in genre television.
Worth saying plainly: AMC has announced the end of this series, not the retirement of these characters.
David Zabel returns as showrunner, with Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero and Angela Kang among the executive producers. The cast also includes Romain Levi, Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, Candela Saitta and Hugo Arbués, across an eight-episode final run shot in Spain.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4 arrives on AMC and AMC+ in 2027. No premiere date has been announced, and the first-look teaser and images are out now.
