Netflix April 20 announced it is raising monthly subscription prices in Spain from €1 to €2 euros per tier — the first price hike in the country in 18 months.
With a reported 8.7 million paid subscribers and €1 billion in content investment through 2028, Netflix Spain is upping the “Standard with Ads” to €8.99 from €6.99; the “Standard (Ad-free)” to €14.99 from €13.99; and the “Premium (4K + HDR)” to €21.99 from €19.99.
Current subscribers will receive an email notification at least 30 days before the new price is applied to their specific billing date.
The company attributed the hikes to the need for continued investment in content, including forays into live sports and events.
Netflix remains the No. 1 SVOD service operating in Spain followed by local Movistar+ (3.7 million subscribers), Prime Video (3 million subs), Disney+ (2.5 million), and HBO Max (1.6 million).
