A 49-year-old man is dead and a 40-year-old woman is recovering in hospital following a shooting at their Valencia home in the early hours of Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Shaun Charles, 49, of LP 4 Emon Lane, Valencia. The injured woman is a 40-year-old of the same address.
Officers of the Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) Eastern Division responded to a report of gunfire at the residence around 3:30 a.m. and found both victims inside suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators said the couple had been asleep in the home along with two children when they were awakened by explosions. Both were struck by gunfire.
Police observed that Charles had sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the centre of his back, while the woman suffered a wound to her upper left back area. Several 9mm spent shell casings and bloodstains were also seen at the scene.
The injured pair were transported by Valencia Criminal Investigations Department (CID) personnel to the Sangre Grande Hospital for urgent medical attention. Charles was later pronounced dead on arrival at 4:19 a.m.
The woman remains hospitalised in stable condition and is receiving treatment for her injuries.
