Sergi Roberto has begun a new chapter in the United States after joining LA Galaxy, drawn by the opportunity to compete in Major League Soccer and take on a fresh challenge in his professional career.
The Spanish midfielder says he had long been determined to play in MLS, making the interest from the Los Angeles club an easy decision. Now, he is looking to bring his experience and technical quality to this new stage of his career in the U.S.
Speaking to MLS reporter Antonella González, the former Barcelona player declared: “I knew I wanted to come to MLS.”
Roberto said that once the Galaxy expressed interest, the club immediately became his top priority, and he had no hesitation about embracing the challenge of continuing his career in a new competition.
“Wasn’t difficult for me”
One of the factors that made the move easier was the presence of players he previously shared a locker room with during his time at Barcelona. The Spaniard explained that having friends already in the squad helped him settle in quickly.
“It wasn’t difficult for me because I have former Barça friends here,” the midfielder said when discussing his adaptation to the team. Among those connections is Riqui Puig, who is believed to have played a key role in bringing Roberto closer to the club.
The veteran midfielder also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity provided by the MLS club. “I’m happy with the confidence LA Galaxy have shown in me. I’m happy to be here,” he said.
Rather than viewing his arrival as a situation where he must immediately prove himself, Roberto said he is approaching this stage of his career free of pressure and focused on helping the team continue to grow and develop.
