The following three innings passed quietly, but Spain Park added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning when Greb hit a double to right field that allowed Barrett Price and Brodie Bragg to score.
The Jaguars added two more runs in the following inning. Slade Bounds hit a sacrifice fly to right field, enabling Joe Cross to score. Ryne Paquette grounded into a fielder’s choice that brought home Camden Major, putting Spain Park ahead 5-0.
The final run of the game was scored in the top of the seventh inning. Jack Lutenbacher reached on an error and Michael Johnson capitalized on the scoring opportunity, bringing the final tally to 6-0.
Spain Park utilized a by committee pitching approach. Hudson Franks got the start and earned the win after a three-inning outing in which he held the Huskies to two hits while walking a better and earning two strikeouts. Brody Smith handled the next two innings, allowing no hits but walking two batters. Connor Dabbs handled the final two frames, and allowed one hit and recorded one punch out.
Jake Holderfield and Justin Mullenix shared the pitching duties for the Huskies, recording 5.1 and 1.2 innings, respectively.
The Jaguars (27-7, 6-0 Class 6A, Area 7) will take on the McAdory Yellowjackets in the first round of the playoffs. Games one and two are scheduled to take place in Hoover at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, on Friday, April 24. The third game, if needed, will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.
The Huskies finished the first regular season of the Mitch Moreland era with a 10-15 overall record and a 2-4 record in Class 6A, Area 7 play. They will compete with Chelsea and Pelham for the runner-up spot in area play on Saturday, April 18 at Spain Park.
