JetBlue just launched its longest flight ever (a new nonstop from Boston to Barcelona) and I was on the inaugural trip to see what Mint class is really like.<\/p>\n

Early in my career as a travel journalist, I\u2019d fly anywhere, any distance, in whatever seat cost the least. It was the only way I could afford to travel\u2014and at the time, I was just excited to see a new place, no matter how uncomfortable the journey was.<\/p>\n

These days, even premium economy can feel too cramped to justify the hours in the air, especially overnight on a transatlantic flight. I\u2019ve become far more selective about which cabins I book, often saving credit card points<\/a> or frequent flyer miles for flights where comfort actually makes a difference.<\/p>\n

So on a recent trip to Barcelona, I flew JetBlue<\/a> Mint class to see if it could make a transatlantic flight feel genuinely comfortable. It even meant taking an extra flight to Boston from my home base in New York. But after spending hours onboard, it felt worth it.<\/p>\n

The seat made the biggest difference\u2014and it\u2019s more customizable than most<\/p>\n

The biggest upgrade in Mint comes down to the seat\u2014and on a flight this long (roughly 7 hours), that\u2019s what counts. It\u2019s the difference between arriving in Barcelona ready to hit the La Rambla running or in desperate need of a nap and a massage.<\/p>\n

The leather seat is fully lie-flat, but I also appreciated how adjustable it felt. Instead of locking into a few preset positions, I could fine-tune the backrest to just about any angle, slide the seat forward or backward, and extend the legrest into a built-in footwell. It made it much easier to find a position that actually felt comfortable, whether I was eating dinner, watching a movie, or trying to sleep<\/a>. I could even stretch out fully and sleep on my side, which isn\u2019t always a given in lie-flat seats.<\/p>\n

JetBlue\u2019s Mint class also includes Tuft & Needle bedding\u2014a pillow and blanket that felt noticeably more substantial than the flimsy fleece blankets I\u2019ve gotten in business class on other airlines. Together, the setup made it easier to settle in for the long haul and actually get some rest while traveling.<\/a><\/p>\n

The suite design is smarter than it looks at first<\/p>\n

Beyond the seat itself, the layout of the Mint suite made the experience much more organized. I immediately appreciated the tucked-away shoe bin when I swapped my sneakers for slides, along with a built-in cup holder stocked with a water bottle right at my side.<\/p>\n

As I settled in, I kept noticing more thoughtful storage: a drawer beneath the in-flight entertainment screen for my laptop and essentials, a spot to stash a bag under the footwell, and even a quirky triangular bin with a magnetic lid that ended up being perfect for small items I didn\u2019t want disappearing into the seat while I slept. The sheer variety of storage meant I didn\u2019t have to keep digging through a bag or constantly rearranging things during the flight. Just make sure you do a thorough search in all the nooks and crannies to collect all your belongings before deplaning.<\/p>\n

A few smaller touches stood out, too. A mini wall sconce with adjustable warm and cool lighting made it easy to shift from working to winding down, and a digital \u201cDo Not Disturb\u201d button let the crew know when I didn\u2019t want to be interrupted. The suite also includes a sliding privacy door, which helped cut down on distractions from people walking by\u2014especially when I was trying to relax or sleep.<\/p>\n

The Mint suite is extremely well-equipped when it comes to charging. There are multiple options, including two standard outlets, USB-A and USB-C ports, and a wireless charging pad built into the side console.<\/p>\n

The wireless charger uses a magnetic connection to hold your phone in place, which is a nice idea. In practice, though, it didn\u2019t work with my phone (an older iPhone 13, which has wireless charging capabilities, but didn\u2019t play nice with the Mint set-up). It did charge my wireless earbuds without an issue, though.<\/p>\n

That said, with all the ways to charge my devices in the Mint suite, staying powered up was easy throughout the flight. I didn\u2019t even need to use my trusty power bank.<\/p>\n

The in-flight entertainment setup felt like a personal cinema. A large 17-inch screen folds in and out from the wall on an adjustable arm and tilts up or down, making it easy to watch whether you\u2019re sitting upright or lying flat. The movie selection was strong\u2014I immediately saved several options to my profile for future flights. The only critique here is the commercials. I had to sit through four different ads before I could lose myself in \u201cGorillas in the Mist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fortunately, JetBlue offers free Wi-Fi, so I was able to distract myself from the annoying commercials. I found that it worked especially well on the overnight trip to Spain<\/a>. On the return during the day, speeds were a bit slower (probably because more passengers were using Wi-Fi instead of sleeping), but it was still reliable enough to handle most tasks, including writing this article.<\/p>\n

The meals were delicious, not just for \u201cplane food\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the most impressive parts of JetBlue\u2019s Mint service to Barcelona was the food. The airline partnered with New York\u2019s Charlie Bird for its menus, served in a small-plates format.<\/p>\n

Instead of one heavy entr\u00e9e, I could mix and match a few dishes, which made the meal feel more flexible. There\u2019s even an option to have everything served at once (\u201cSavor & Sleep\u201d) if you want to eat quickly and maximize rest.<\/p>\n

What really wowed me though, was how easy it was to eat well as a vegetarian without making a special request. There were multiple plant-forward options on the standard menu, so I never felt like I was settling for an afterthought. I wish all airlines made in-flight dining as easy for vegetarians as JetBlue does.<\/p>\n

The dishes themselves exceeded the in-room dining I\u2019ve had at some fancy resorts. The farro snap pea salad tasted fresh, the chilled pea soup was surprisingly bright, and the orecchiette with pesto hit that comfort-food note you want on a long flight. I went with the gelato for dessert, which was the perfect note to end the meal.<\/p>\n

About 90 minutes before landing, the crew served a light breakfast of a rosemary-honey biscuit and Greek yogurt\u2014just enough to keep me going through arrival without feeling overly full.<\/p>\n

From check-in through the flight itself, the service was one of the most memorable parts of the experience. Because it was an inaugural route, there were extra JetBlue staff onboard, and the mood felt upbeat from the start. Everyone around me seemed invested in helping one another and keeping things running smoothly.<\/p>\n

It had been a while since I\u2019d last flown JetBlue, and I\u2019d forgotten how consistently friendly the crew can be. Compared to other airlines I\u2019ve flown in recent years, the level of warmth and attentiveness from the JetBlue crew made an already pleasant flight even better.<\/p>\n

Is JetBlue\u2019s Mint class worth it?\"A<\/p>\n

JetBlue\u2019s new route<\/a> from Boston to Barcelona is long, but Mint makes it feel far more manageable\u2014and even enjoyable. Between the comfortable seat, thoughtful design, and consistently friendly service, the experience delivers where it matters most on a long-haul.<\/p>\n

To mark the launch, JetBlue is offering limited one-way fares starting at $1,799 in Mint.
