After welcoming a record 97 million tourists last year, \u200c3.5% more than in \u200b2024, Spain \u200ccould maintain a similar \u200cpace of growth this year, Industry and Tourism Minister \u200bJordi Hereu said.<\/p>\n<p>However, higher fuel costs threaten to \u200bpush up airfares and weigh \u200con demand, he warned in an interview published on Monday with Spanish newspaper Expansion. \u201cWhat we\u2019re recommending is that people buy their tickets now \u2060because it\u2019s true that (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Airlines.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">airlines<\/a>) are currently using kerosene that \u200bwas \u200bpurchased some \u200ctime ago, and therefore there\u2019s an element of price fluctuations involved,\u201c Hereu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8230;It\u2019s already clear \u200cthat prices have risen and this could affect demand,\u201c he said, adding that Spanish and European authorities were taking measures to prevent fuel shortages. Disruption \u2060to global oil supplies \u200chas pushed prices up by around 50% since the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28.<\/p>\n<p>Rising \u200boil prices have \u200cadded \u200cmore than $100 to the price of long-haul flights from Europe, a cost likely to trigger higher ticket prices, campaign group Transport &amp; Environment said last week. Hereu said that \u2060Spain, \u200bthe euro zone\u2019s fourth largest economy, had a larger stock \u200bof kerosene and higher production capacity than other countries. But he warned: \u201cIf the countries \u200cthat send tourists to Spain had problems, we would have them too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EU energy commissioner Dan Jorgensen told Sky News many people would be hit by the high price and low availability of aviation fuel. \u201cUnfortunately, it\u2019s very likely that many people\u2019s holidays will be affected, either because of flight cancellations or very, very expensive tickets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Airlines UK, representing the main carriers, says:\u201cAirlines continue to operate normally and are not experiencing issues with jet fuel supply.\u201d A government spokesperson said: \u201cUK airlines are clear that they are not currently seeing a shortage of jet fuel.
