Grenergy said that the Escuderos project replicates its model in Chile, where it is developing, securing offtake for and selling (in stages) two huge solar-plus-storage sites called Oasis de Atacama<\/a> (11GWh) and Oasis Central<\/a> (4GWh).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see enormous potential in the Spanish market to continue developing a hybrid portfolio, building on the experience and track record we have already established in Chile with the Oasis platforms,\u201d said David Ruiz de Andr\u00e9s, CEO of Grenergy.<\/p>\n

Spain is generally agreed to be a very strong long-term market for energy storage with high solar PV penetration enabling a business case around load shifting, but most sources also say the regulatory landscape is far from complete<\/a>. Nonetheless, the large-scale project space has progressed rapidly in the past year. <\/p>\n

Power firm Iberdrola commissioned what it said was the country\u2019s largest BESS projects in January at 30MW\/60MW each<\/a> while Zelestra<\/a>, Engie<\/a> and BRUC<\/a> have all finalised plans to deploy much larger projects. At the earlier stage, developers Return<\/a> and FRV<\/a> bought and revealed (respectively) large-scale pipelines.<\/p>\n

Zelestra, an IPP, has pioneered the BESS offtake space in Spain, signing what was agreed to be the first PPA in Spain involving a large-scale BESS in July 2025<\/a>.
