Brits wanting to travel abroad this summer are being urged to buy their airline tickets now in order to be protected from higher prices for air fare<\/a>. While some UK based airlines have confirmed they will not be adding surcharges to flights and holidays, not everyone is in the same boat.<\/p>\n As the Middle East war causes the price of jet fuel to rise, Spain’s Industry and Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu is advising travellers to consider booking their holidays<\/a> as soon as possible. While he believes that Spain will still welcome millions of tourists this year, he warns that fuel costs threaten to push up fares and weigh on demand.<\/p>\n Last year, Spain<\/a> welcomed a record 97million tourists, which is 3.5 per cent more than in 2024. While Spanish and European authorities are taking measures to prevent fuel shortages, Brits are being urged to make holiday decisions soon to keep costs down.<\/p>\n Speaking to Spanish newspaper Expansion, Hereu said: “What we\u2019re recommending is that people buy their tickets now \u2060because it\u2019s true that (airlines) are currently using kerosene that was purchased some \u200ctime ago, and therefore there\u2019s an element of price fluctuations involved.”<\/p>\n He added: “It\u2019s already clear \u200cthat prices have risen and this could affect demand.” According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin<\/a>, the disruption to global oil supplies has pushed up prices by around 50 per cent since the conflict began on February 28.<\/p>\n British Airways is warning travellers of ‘pricing adjustments’ in the future.(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n As a result, rising oil prices have added more than $100 (around \u00a374) to the price of long-haul flights from Europe. Last week, campaign group Transport & Environment said that this rising cost could likely trigger higher ticket prices.<\/p>\n EU energy commissioner Dan Jorgensen has also warned: “Unfortunately, it\u2019s very likely that many people\u2019s holidays will be affected, either because of flight cancellations or very, very expensive tickets.”<\/p>\n At the current moment, UK based airlines are reportedly not experiencing any issues with jet fuel supply<\/a>, and the UK Government is working with fuel suppliers to manage any issues if they arise.<\/p>\n A government spokesperson said: “UK airlines are clear that they are not currently seeing a shortage of jet fuel. Aviation fuel is typically bought in advance, and airports and their suppliers keep stocks of bunkered fuel to support their resilience.<\/p>\n “We are continuing to work with fuel suppliers, airlines and international counterparts to keep flights operating, as well as planning for a range of contingencies.”<\/p>\n EasyJet, TUI and Jet2 have confirmed they will not be adding surcharges to flights and holidays.(Image: Jeff Pachoud\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n Over the weekend, Jet2, easyJet and TUI all confirmed that they would not be adding any additional fees<\/a> to pre-booked flights and holidays, as well as those yet to be booked.<\/p>\n Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, said: “Holidaymakers should have every right to book their hard-earned break in the sun, without worrying about being hit with additional costs, and they can have that complete assurance when they book a flight or holiday with Jet2.<\/p>\n “As a result of today\u2019s announcement, customers booking with Jet2 know that they are locking in their price without additional cost surprises later and we strongly believe that is the right thing to do by them. Ahead of a busy summer this is yet more evidence of why, on top of our incredible holidays and award-winning customer service, nothing beats a Jet2holiday.”<\/p>\n However, the same cannot be said for all Uk airlines.
