Spanish water and energy utility\u00a0Cox\u00a0Group\u00a0has completed its\u00a0$4 billion\u00a0acquisition of Iberdrola Mexico, calling it a perfect strategic fit for the group.\u00a0The transaction, first announced in July 2025, adds a platform with 2.6\u00a0GW of operational capacity\u00a0across 15 wind, solar PV, combined-cycle,\u00a0and cogeneration power plants,\u00a0along with\u00a0a renewable\u00a0energy\u00a0project pipeline of around 12\u00a0GW, at various stages of development.\u00a0The deal brings\u00a0Mexico\u2019s\u00a0\u2018largest\u2019\u00a0private energy supplier\u00a0to Cox,\u00a0with over 25% market share, 20 TWh of sales, and more than 500 large customers, it said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to the Spanish group, the\u00a0deal enhances Cox\u2019s scale, execution capabilities, and revenue stability, supported by recurring income and strong cash generation. It also brings over 800 employees into the group, with the existing management team set to be\u00a0retained. The acquisition, explains\u00a0Cox, aligns with its\u00a0strategy to focus on priority regions, positioning Mexico as a central hub for its growth in\u00a0Latin\u00a0America.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s state-owned development finance company\u00a0Compa\u00f1\u00eda\u00a0Espa\u00f1ola de\u00a0Financiaci\u00f3n\u00a0del Desarrollo\u00a0(COFIDES)\u00a0is supporting Navarra-based\u00a0Enhol\u00a0in developing the 396 MW Illa\u00a0Solar PV\u00a0plant in Arequipa, Peru, set to become the country\u2019s largest solar facility. The project involves over $350 million in investment, with\u00a0COFIDES\u00a0contributing $40 million through\u00a0Fund for Foreign Investment (FIEX)\u00a0and syndicated financing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
