The company has formally requested administrative authorization for an ambitious project to extend the lifespan of three of its critical gas turbines: the G2B and the TG3B and TG4B units, the latter two integrated into the Barranco I Combined Cycle plant. The planned investment for these actions amounts to €30.667.931.

The technical intervention focuses on a thorough overhaul of the internal equipment to ensure reliable long-term operation. In the G2B turbine, the work includes the complete replacement of the casings, the rotor—including compressor and turbine blades—and the starter motor. Meanwhile, in the combined cycle, modifications will be made to the compressors, and advanced systems such as Purge Credit and Minimum Environmental Load (MEL) will be installed to optimize the performance and operational flexibility of the units.

The modernization project does not include an increase in the plant’s electrical or thermal output, nor any changes to the type of fuel used. Key infrastructure improvements include the installation of a new 6 kV busbar at the existing substation and the replacement of the main step-down transformer in unit TG3B. As this is an upgrade of assets that have already been authorized and registered, the Directorate General for Energy has determined that the project is not subject to an environmental impact assessment.

The regional government has opened a 30-day public consultation period so that any interested party can examine the technical file and submit comments. This update is essential to guarantee the stability of the electricity supply in Gran Canaria as the energy transition process progresses, allowing the San Bartolomé de Tirajana power plant to maintain its capacity to respond to the demands of the island’s system with updated control technology and renewed mechanical components.

Unión Eléctrica de Canarias Generación (Unelco), owned by the Italian Enel group, Endesa, has begun the process…

[125
195,163,8412,634,3858,8414,8413,8416,8415
0":"post-14219","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-endesa","8":"tag-electricity","9":"tag-endesa","10":"tag-enel","11":"tag-energy-transition","12":"tag-gran-canaria","13":"tag-thermal-power-plant-modernization","14":"tag-tirajana-thermal-power-plant","15":"tag-unelco","16":"tag-union-electrica-de-canarias
["GET
