With just under five months until Formula 1<\/a>\u2018s scheduled first Spanish Grand Prix<\/a> in Madrid, Motorsport Week has obtained exclusive images of the site of the city\u2019s circuit, with what appears to be much work still to be done.<\/p>\n

The Madring circuit broke ground just over one year ago to much excitement, the city being afforded the duty of hosting the country\u2019s official Grand Prix, with its longstanding venue \u2013 the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya \u2013 remaining this year as the city\u2019s GP.<\/p>\n

Madring has boasted Carlos Sainz\u2019s involvement as an ambassador, and has also aimed big with a 110,000 capacity for the semi-permanent circuit.<\/p>\n

At just under 3.5 miles, the Madrid is to take in some notable sights of the city, particularly the IFEMA Exhibition Centre, around which it is woven.<\/p>\n

There is a great deal of excitement with clocks above many of the city\u2019s metro stations that are counting down to the weekend of September 11-13, when the race is scheduled.<\/p>\n

But with some previous indications that the site appears far from ready, Motorsport Week can reveal, from images taken of the weekend of the city\u2019s Formula E race, that this appears to be the case.<\/p>\n

Last month, the circuit did achieve a particular milestone with the first tarmacking of the banked Turn 12 La Monumental complex, perhaps the most awe-inspiring section of the circuit.<\/p>\n

And, as far as the circuit\u2019s General Manager Luis Garcia Abad is concerned, there is no cause to panic.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to meet each of our major milestones on schedule, and day-to-day there is a real buzz around the IFEMA MADRID as we continue to build a world-class, long-term home for Formula 1 in Spain at the MADRING,\u201d he said in a statement released to Motorsport Week.<\/p>\n

\u201cWork is still scheduled to be completed in the next few months as planned, at which point we will be ready to stage a test event and go through all the final checks with Formula 1 and the FIA ahead of the race in September.\u201d<\/p>\n

There will be much intrigue as the weeks continue as to whether work begins to see the circuit take shape.<\/p>\n
