The prime minister argued Europe has the world\u2019s best quality of life, the highest life expectancy, the greatest number of democratic governments, the most robust environmental standards and safest streets. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou only have to travel outside of Europe to truly understand what I\u2019m talking about,\u201d he said. \u201cIt feels good to be European.\u201d<\/p>\n
S\u00e1nchez said that Europe deserves to be proud of its achievements, but admitted it \u201cstill has a lot of work to do.\u201d He called for the EU to allocate a greater share of the bloc\u2019s seven-year budget to social spending, and for Europe to remain open to \u201ctrade, talent, and ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Figures like Alberto N\u00fa\u00f1ez Feij\u00f3o, leader of the center-right People\u2019s Party, are staunchly against the government\u2019s plan to regularize more than 500,000 undocumented migrants.<\/p>\n
\u201cSpain is exporting a migration problem to the entire European Union,\u201d Feij\u00f3o said during his own address to the audience in Barcelona, calling for \u201cSpain, and therefore Europe, that we regain control of our borders.\u201d<\/p>\n
But during his own speech, S\u00e1nchez pushed back, saying the \u201clegal, safe, and orderly migration\u201d is key if the EU wants to \u201cseize opportunities and better manage the challenges it faces.\u201d<\/p>\n
S\u00e1nchez further rallied the bloc to act boldly. <\/p>\n
