On Friday, Germany international Nico Schlotterbeck inked a contract extension<\/a> with Borussia Dortmund. Over the past few months, Schlotterbeck was linked to both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid before ultimately deciding to stay with BVB.<\/p>\n

Per Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia<\/a>), Real Madrid is suspected of being one of the clubs on Schlotterbeck\u2019s rumored limited release clause list. Reports indicate there are a select, few clubs who would be eligible to trigger Schlotterbeck\u2019s release clause:<\/p>\n

Nico Schlotterbeck\u2019s new Dortmund contract contains a \u20ac50-60m release clause, valid from this summer, and which only applies to a select few clubs. Schlotterbeck\u2019s \u2018dream clubs\u2019 are FC Bayern and Real Madrid \u2013 and it\u2019s almost certain that the release clause applies to them.<\/p>\n

As things stand, Bayern are unlikely to make a move for the German international after they extended Dayot Upamecano\u2019s contract. In addition, Max Eberl is not fully convinced of Schlotterbeck\u2019s qualities. The defender waited for concrete offers from top clubs but there were none, that\u2019s why he extended, and left the door open through the release clause.<\/p>\n

You might ask about Bayern Munich, but there was an update to the initial report, which indicates that Bayern Munich is actually not on the list (via @iMiaSanMia<\/a>):<\/p>\n

Update from @BILD: Nico Schlotterbeck\u2019s release clause does NOT apply to FC Bayern \u2013 not at any point during the five-year term. It only applies to a select list of major foreign clubs. Dortmund were determined to prevent strengthening a domestic rival, hence they insisted on excluding Bayern from the list of clubs concerned with the release clause.<\/p>\n

With the World Cup on tap for the summer, Schlotterbeck could do well for himself if he truly wants an eventual move to Real Madrid. A starring performance would bolster his already good reputation and likely help rekindle any interest that Real Madrid allegedly once had.<\/p>\n
