{"id":17254,"date":"2026-05-05T13:46:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T13:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/17254\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T13:46:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T13:46:14","slug":"barcelona-shift-priorities-as-e85m-rated-deal-proves-financially-impossible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/17254\/","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona shift priorities as \u20ac85m-rated deal proves financially impossible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Barcelona\u2019s brief link with Anthony Gordon has quickly lost momentum, with the club now stepping back from what was never a realistic deal to begin with.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite recent reports suggesting contact between the two parties, the latest update makes it clear that this is not a transfer Barcelona are planning to pursue.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marca.com\/futbol\/barcelona\/2026\/05\/05\/gordon-ajusta-presupuesto-prioritario-barca.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">MARCA<\/a>, the winger does not fit within the club\u2019s current financial structure, nor is he seen as a priority signing for the upcoming window.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While sporting director <a href=\"https:\/\/barcauniversal.com\/barcelona-keeping-track-of-e85-million-rated-premier-league-winger-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Deco did meet with the player\u2019s representatives<\/a>, the outcome of those discussions only confirmed the gap between interest and possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon is appreciated, but\u2026<\/p>\n<p>One thing to note is that from a sporting point of view, Gordon is well regarded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Both Deco and manager Hansi Flick appreciate his profile, particularly his pace, directness, and ability to impact games from wide areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is also an understanding that the player himself would be open to joining Barcelona, which, on the surface, makes the situation look promising.<\/p>\n<p>However, the financial reality tells a different story, as Newcastle United are under no pressure to sell.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/fc-barcelona-v-newcastle-united-fc-uefa-champions-league-2025-26-round-of-16-second-leg-40-1024x683..jpeg\" alt=\"Anthony Gordon, Newcastle United player\" class=\"wp-image-198782\"  \/>Anthony Gordon is not Barcelona\u2019s priority.
