Atletico Madrid<\/a> midfielder Giuliano Simeone protested two penalty appeals his side were denied as they were knocked out of the Champions League<\/a> on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Bukayo Saka<\/a>\u2019s first-half tap-in at the Emirates Stadium<\/a> was enough for Arsenal<\/a> to seal a 2-1 aggregate victory after a 1-1 stalemate in the Spanish capital in the first leg. <\/p>\n

The result ended what had started looking like a fairytale run for Atletico, managed by Giuliano Simeone\u2019s father Diego, but was not without controversy. <\/p>\n

Atletico believed they should have been granted two penalty appeals, with Giuliano Simeone continuing the protests against the officials\u2019 decision after the game. <\/p>\n

That also finished 3-3. Go back to 2012, and City\u2019s first league title since 1968 was aided by David Moyes\u2019 Everton, mounting an extraordinary comeback to draw 4-4 with Manchester United. In each case, two points were dropped in dramatic fashion.<\/p>\n

Club captain Koke said: \u201cThere were high hopes for us in the Copa and in the Champions League. We were not consistent in the league, we were not at the level we should have been. But we lost the Copa in a penalty shootout and in the Champions League we were this close to advancing.<\/p>\n
