BBVA (NYSE:BBVA<\/a>) is preparing<\/a> a broad expansion of artificial intelligence across its workforce after deciding to give more than 120,000 employees access to ChatGPT Enterprise, following a pilot involving 11,000 staff that indicated time savings of around three hours a week on routine tasks. The Spanish banking group did not disclose commercial terms, though typical enterprise pricing of about $25 per user per month suggests the annual cost could run into the tens of millions of dollars for an organization of this size. Management appears to view the rollout as a practical step toward embedding AI more deeply into daily banking operations rather than a limited productivity experiment.<\/p>\n

OpenAI executives said the partnership could move beyond basic efficiency gains, with engineers from both firms expected to work closely on training AI models specifically for banking use cases. Sam Altman, OpenAI’s chief executive, said the technology could be embedded into the core of BBVA’s products and processes, potentially enhancing the customer experience over time. BBVA’s head of global AI adoption, Elena Alfaro, noted the bank already employs more than 1,000 scientists running AI models alongside 2,500 data specialists, and suggested the tools could elevate staff capabilities. Executives said such bank partnerships are intended to generate revenue while also providing real-world feedback on model performance, a theme reinforced by recent customer wins including digital banks Revolut and Allica Bank, as well as private equity firms EQT and Permira.
