{"id":19945,"date":"2026-05-09T12:33:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T12:33:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/19945\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T12:33:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T12:33:15","slug":"who-chief-arrives-in-spain-to-oversee-hantavirus-hit-ship-evacuation-channels-television","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/19945\/","title":{"rendered":"WHO Chief Arrives In Spain To Oversee Hantavirus-Hit Ship Evacuation \u2022 Channels Television"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The World Health Organization chief said Saturday he had arrived in Spain and would join government officials to oversee the disembarkation of a hantavirus-hit cruise ship in the Canary Islands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI arrived in Spain, where I will join senior government officials in a mission to Tenerife to oversee safe disembarkation of the passengers, crew members and health experts from MV Hondius cruise ship,\u201d Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X.<\/p>\n<p>Three passengers from the MV Hondius \u2014 a Dutch husband and wife and a German woman \u2014 have died, while others have fallen sick with the rare disease, which usually spreads among rodents.<\/p>\n<p>The only hantavirus strain that can transmit from person to person \u2014 Andes virus \u2014 has been confirmed among those who have tested positive, fuelling international concern.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch-flagged vessel, which has around 150 people on board, is expected to arrive at the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife on Sunday.
