And for the first time ever, they have clinched the title in a game against their biggest rivals.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres put Barça into an early two-goal lead, and from there it was plain sailing until the final whistle. It wasn’t the prettiest or most dramatic Clásico we’ve ever seen, but nobody inside Spotify Camp Nou was complaining. They were witnessing history in the making.

And there could still be more history to come. That’s now 18 wins from 18 league games on home soil. One more victory (against Betis) and Barça will become the first side ever to complete a 20-team Liga season without dropping a single point at home. That’s how dominant they have been in a campaign that could yet end with 100 points. And to crown it all with such a comfortable win over Real Madrid…

It was perfect night that Barça fans will be savouring for years and years to come.

Two early goals

It already felt like a special night during the spectacular build-up, with Olivia Rodrigo’s music warming up the crowd, who then followed with a spine-tingling a cappella rendition of the Barça anthem before impeccably observing a moment of silence in memory of Hansi Flick’s father.

Barça were flying from the first whistle and needed just nine minutes to break the deadlock. Rashford once again showed his quality from set pieces, catching everyone by surprise with a brilliantly placed free-kick from the edge of the area that flew into Thibaut Courtois’ top corner.

Nine minutes later, Spotify Camp Nou was celebrating again. Dani Olmo cleverly flicked the ball back into space and only Torres seemed alive to the opportunity. He gathered possession and finished clinically while the white-shirted defenders around him stood frozen in disbelief.

Total control

Real Madrid’s response was strangely flat. Gonzalo García squandered a good chance, but speculative efforts from distance never seriously troubled Joan Garcia.

It already looked less a question of whether Barça would win and more by how many. Were it not for several outstanding saves from Courtois, returning from injury, the margin could have been much wider.

The visitors improved after the break, and Jude Bellingham did find the net from an obvious offside position. But by the time Raphinha came on after a six-game absence, the home fans were already chanting “campeones, campeones”.

Madrid needed three goals to silence them, and it never truly looked likely.

Time to celebrate

As the minutes ticked away, frustration began to show among the visitors, and tempers occasionally flared, while Barça stroked the ball around to a chorus of “olés”. There are now fourteen points between these two sides, and the reason was obvious on the pitch. Right now, Barça are simply a far better football team.

The referee did not even bother adding injury time. Nobody needed it. The match was over. The title race was over. And the skies above Catalonia were already lighting up with fireworks.

FC Barcelona are 2025/26 Liga champions!

            Previous

            Chevron pointing left

            Next

            Chevron SVG pointing right

FC Barcelona have been confirmed as league champions for the 29th time!
