Iberdrola has confirmed the early renewal of three electricity distribution concessions in Brazil and, through its subsidiary Neoenergia, has announced a major new investment cycle worth nearly 50 billion reais\u2014approximately 9 billion euros\u2014through 2030. This new phase almost doubles the company\u2019s investments from the previous period (2021\u20132025), during which 27.5 billion reais were allocated to strengthening the country\u2019s energy network. <\/p>\n

The upcoming cycle places strong emphasis on expanding, modernising, and digitalising Brazil\u2019s electricity infrastructure to support long-term national development.Executive Chairman Ignacio Gal\u00e1n commended the Brazilian Government for its management of the concession renewal process, noting that the country has established an environment of legal and regulatory stability that encourages international investment. <\/p>\n

He described this renewed framework as essential for building confidence among global investors while enabling the company to plan ahead, secure critical equipment, and contribute to industrial and employment growth at a moment when electrification is driving worldwide competition. Gal\u00e1n also reiterated that robust electricity networks are fundamental to economic growth, technological advancement, and long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n

The new investment cycle follows the early renewal of concessions for Neoenergia Coelba in Bahia, Neoenergia Cosern in Rio Grande do Norte, and Neoenergia Elektro in S\u00e3o Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul. These extensions will run for the next 30 years, joining the earlier renewal of Neoenergia Pernambuco, valid until 2060, and the original concession for Neoenergia Bras\u00edlia, which extends to 2045. <\/p>\n

The early renewals recognise the company\u2019s strong performance and ensure a predictable and stable foundation for future investments, all with a focus on enhancing customer service through technologies that improve the reliability and efficiency of the grid.Looking ahead, Iberdrola\u2019s investment plan is expected to accelerate the digitalisation of Brazil\u2019s power networks, improve service quality, and expand the grid\u2019s capacity to accommodate rising demand. <\/p>\n

These upgrades will play an important role in supporting Brazil\u2019s broader economic and industrial progress by promoting greater electrification across sectors. Neoenergia, recognised by the Brazilian Association of Infrastructure and Basic Industries as the leading private investor in national infrastructure over the past four years, has already contributed significantly to Brazil\u2019s energy landscape. <\/p>\n

By 2025, total Group investments in the country reached 30 billion reais, including both organic growth and minority acquisitions.Serving nearly 40 million people, Neoenergia stands as Brazil\u2019s largest electricity distribution group. It operates across 18 states and the Federal District, maintaining over 750,000 kilometres of distribution lines, 8,000 kilometres of transmission lines, and 4,000 MW of renewable generation capacity, primarily from hydroelectric sources. Through this expanded long-term commitment, Iberdrola aims to reinforce Brazil\u2019s energy security and contribute meaningfully to the country\u2019s sustainable development.<\/p>\n
