It was the Spanish rider’s team, Gresini Racing, that published the first health report on \u00c1lex M\u00e1rquez following his crash which caused the first interruption of the Catalan Grand Prix. MotoGP<\/a>The Spanish rider collided with Pedro Acosta on the straight, the latter apparently suffering a mechanical problem. M\u00e1rquez was then thrown to the right side of the track before crashing, fortunately without hitting the concrete wall. The number 73 bike broke apart in the middle of the track, showering debris on Ra\u00fal Fern\u00e1ndez and Johann Zarco, and striking Fabio Di Giannantonio’s front wheel, causing him to crash. While the latter three were able to continue, M\u00e1rquez was injured and on the ground.<\/p>\n

The reigning world championship runner-up is suffering from a minor fracture of his C7 vertebra, which will undergo further examination next week. He also has a fractured right clavicle, which will be stabilized with a plate during surgery this evening at a Barcelona hospital. This brings an end to the season for the younger of the M\u00e1rquez brothers, who won the sprint race at the Catalan Grand Prix on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Johann Zarco, who crashed during the second start, was also taken to the hospital in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bwith his team boss Lucio Cecchinello telling several media outlets that he was complaining of pain in his leg, at the level of the knee and femur, but that no concussion or fracture in the upper part of his body had been detected.<\/p>\n
