BARCELONA\/MADRID, May 19 (Reuters) – Police in Spain said they had detained the son of fashion group \u200cMango’s founder Isak Andic on Tuesday in connection with an investigation \u200cinto his father’s death in December 2024.<\/p>\n
Isak Andic died after falling more than 100 meters (328 \u200bft) from a cliff while hiking with family members near the Mediterranean city of Barcelona. His death was initially treated as an accident, but police in Catalonia later said it was being investigated as a possible homicide.<\/p>\n
A family \u200cspokesperson confirmed Jonathan Andic was \u2060being questioned by investigators, but declined to provide details.<\/p>\n
“The cooperation has been and will remain total,” the spokesperson said \u2060of Jonathan Andic, who police said was detained on Tuesday and remains in custody.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson repeated that Jonathan Andic’s family was confident of his innocence. The \u200bcourt \u200bhandling the case said last year that \u200bthe investigation was not directed \u200cat any specific individual.<\/p>\n
He is expected to be transferred to an investigating court to testify before a judge soon, a police spokesperson said, adding that the probe remains under seal.<\/p>\n
Isak Andic, who was born in Istanbul, moved to Catalonia in the northeast of Spain in the 1960s and founded \u200cMango in 1984. He built it into \u200ba global group seen as a rival to \u200bZara.<\/p>\n
At the time of \u200bhis death, he was non-executive chairman of Mango with a \u200cnet worth of $4.5 billion according to \u200bForbes.<\/p>\n
The unlisted Barcelona-based \u200bcompany reported sales of 3.8 billion euros ($4.41 billion) in 2025.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Andic, who previously worked in Mango’s retail operations, is now vice-chairman of the \u200bboard.<\/p>\n
Mango declined to comment \u200con the development.<\/p>\n
