{"id":27837,"date":"2026-05-22T08:01:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T08:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/27837\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T08:01:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T08:01:11","slug":"spain-approves-bobadilla-algeciras-line-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/27837\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain approves Bobadilla\u2013Algeciras line upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    This step is continuation of the modernisation of one of the country\u2019s main freight corridors linking the southern Port of Algeciras with the national rail network.\n                <\/p>\n<p>\n                Spain\u2019s Council of Ministers has authorised<br \/>\nmore than EUR 72.4m for new works on the Bobadilla\u2013Algeciras conventional<br \/>\nrailway line.\n            <\/p>\n<p>\n                The package includes EUR 52.2m for<br \/>\ninstallation of the electrification system on the 106 km Ronda\u2013Algeciras<br \/>\nsection and EUR 20.2m for infrastructure and track upgrades between Bobadilla<br \/>\nand Ronda. The projects will be delivered through Adif.\n            <\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5DC1134958E20CA8.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 MITMA\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid rounded\"\/><br \/>\n                \u00a9 MITMA<\/p>\n<p>\n                The Ronda\u2013Algeciras contract covers<br \/>\ninstallation of a 2&#215;25 kV AC 50 Hz overhead electrification system together<br \/>\nwith associated power and telecommunications works. Adif said the project will<br \/>\nincrease line capacity, improve operational reliability and prepare the route<br \/>\nfor future integration into the Mediterranean Corridor.\n            <\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/F2363C17C7641C99.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 MITMA\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid rounded\"\/><br \/>\n                \u00a9 MITMA<\/p>\n<p>\n                The Bobadilla\u2013Ronda works include track<br \/>\nrenewal, drainage upgrades, ballast retaining walls and adaptations to bridges<br \/>\nand overpasses required for future electrification. The contract covers works<br \/>\nbetween kilometre points 20 and 26.5 of the line and has a planned execution<br \/>\nperiod of 13 months.\n            <\/p>\n<p>\n                Adif stated that more than EUR 514m has<br \/>\nalready been mobilised for the overall modernisation of the 176 km<br \/>\nBobadilla\u2013Algeciras route. The programme includes full electrification, track<br \/>\nrenewal, siding extensions, GSM-R deployment and gauge adaptation works in 21<br \/>\ntunnels to accommodate semi-trailers used by the Algeciras\u2013Zaragoza semitrailers by rail service.\n            <\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/EFF0CF423558BA89.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 MITMA\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid rounded\"\/><br \/>\n                \u00a9 MITMA<\/p>\n<p>\n                Additional contracts linked to the corridor<br \/>\ninclude the construction and maintenance tender for the Marchenilla traction<br \/>\nsubstation and the award of design works for the Ronda traction substation<br \/>\nserving the Bobadilla\u2013Ronda section.\n            <\/p>\n<p>\n                The Bobadilla\u2013Algeciras line forms part of<br \/>\nboth the Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors and provides rail access to the<br \/>\nPort of Algeciras Bay, Spain\u2019s largest port.\n            <\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3E8956D41F6ECED9.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 MITMA\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid rounded\"\/><br \/>\n                \u00a9 MITMA<\/p>\n<p>\n                The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable<br \/>\nMobility said investment in Atlantic Corridor railway infrastructure reached<br \/>\nEUR 3.123bn in tenders during 2025, with a further EUR 1bn launched in the<br \/>\nfirst five months of 2026. Railway tenders increased by 122% compared with<br \/>\n2024.\n            <\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/154EFBB9667BDF4E.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 MITMA\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid rounded\"\/><br \/>\n                \u00a9 MITMA<\/p>\n<p>\n                Among the largest current Atlantic Corridor<br \/>\nprojects is the future Burgos\u2013Vitoria high-speed line, where EUR 789.2m of<br \/>\ntenders have already been launched this year covering three sections of the<br \/>\nroute.
