\n This step is continuation of the modernisation of one of the country\u2019s main freight corridors linking the southern Port of Algeciras with the national rail network.\n <\/p>\n

\n Spain\u2019s Council of Ministers has authorised
\nmore than EUR 72.4m for new works on the Bobadilla\u2013Algeciras conventional
\nrailway line.\n <\/p>\n

\n The package includes EUR 52.2m for
\ninstallation of the electrification system on the 106 km Ronda\u2013Algeciras
\nsection and EUR 20.2m for infrastructure and track upgrades between Bobadilla
\nand Ronda. The projects will be delivered through Adif.\n <\/p>\n

\n The Ronda\u2013Algeciras contract covers
\ninstallation of a 2×25 kV AC 50 Hz overhead electrification system together
\nwith associated power and telecommunications works. Adif said the project will
\nincrease line capacity, improve operational reliability and prepare the route
\nfor future integration into the Mediterranean Corridor.\n <\/p>\n

\n The Bobadilla\u2013Ronda works include track
\nrenewal, drainage upgrades, ballast retaining walls and adaptations to bridges
\nand overpasses required for future electrification. The contract covers works
\nbetween kilometre points 20 and 26.5 of the line and has a planned execution
\nperiod of 13 months.\n <\/p>\n

\n Adif stated that more than EUR 514m has
\nalready been mobilised for the overall modernisation of the 176 km
\nBobadilla\u2013Algeciras route. The programme includes full electrification, track
\nrenewal, siding extensions, GSM-R deployment and gauge adaptation works in 21
\ntunnels to accommodate semi-trailers used by the Algeciras\u2013Zaragoza semitrailers by rail service.\n <\/p>\n

\n Additional contracts linked to the corridor
\ninclude the construction and maintenance tender for the Marchenilla traction
\nsubstation and the award of design works for the Ronda traction substation
\nserving the Bobadilla\u2013Ronda section.\n <\/p>\n

\n The Bobadilla\u2013Algeciras line forms part of
\nboth the Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors and provides rail access to the
\nPort of Algeciras Bay, Spain\u2019s largest port.\n <\/p>\n

\n The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable
\nMobility said investment in Atlantic Corridor railway infrastructure reached
\nEUR 3.123bn in tenders during 2025, with a further EUR 1bn launched in the
\nfirst five months of 2026. Railway tenders increased by 122% compared with
\n2024.\n <\/p>\n

\n Among the largest current Atlantic Corridor
\nprojects is the future Burgos\u2013Vitoria high-speed line, where EUR 789.2m of
\ntenders have already been launched this year covering three sections of the
\nroute. Other schemes advancing include the Basque Y high-speed network,
\nhigh-speed rail projects in Extremadura, the Toledo\u2013Talavera\u2013Talayuela line and
\nthe Seville\u2013Huelva corridor.\n <\/p>\n
