The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) announced in a statement on Wednesday that its board of directors has approved two separate requests Shell Western LNG and Axpo Iberia to provide commercial services for the supply of LNG to ships via tankers in the ports of Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia.<\/p>\n
The two concessions are valid for six years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe commitment to alternative energy sources is one of the key elements of Valenciaport\u2019s net zero emissions plan, through which the organization aims to lead the decarbonization of the ports of Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
APV did not provide further details.<\/p>\n
The Enagas-operated Sagunto LNG terminal, which received <\/a>its 1000th cargo last year, is located in the port of Sagunto near Valencia.<\/p>\n Last year, Saggas, the Sagunto LNG terminal operator, launched a bio-LNG loading service, allowing trucks and vessels loaded at the plant to certify that the liquefied natural gas is wholly or partially bio-LNG through the issuance of sustainability proofs.<\/p>\n Shell and Axpo are also increasing the use of bio-LNG in their supply mix to vessels, including in Spain.<\/p>\n In March, Enagas and Axpo put the newbuild LNG bunkering vessel Alisios LNG into service<\/a> following a ceremony at the Spanish port of Huelva.<\/p>\n With a capacity of 12,500 cbm, Alisios LNG will be supplied at the Enagas-operated Huelva LNG terminal and will enable the supply of LNG and bio-LNG as sustainable fuels for the decarbonization of maritime transport, Enagas said.<\/p>\n In March last year, Axpo\u00a0completed<\/a>\u00a0its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation with its chartered 7,500-cbm LNG bunkering and supply vessel, Avenir Aspiration.<\/p>\n Axpo bunkered MSC\u2019s LNG dual-fuel containership in the Spanish port of Malaga.<\/p>\n As per Shell, the company has one of the largest LNG bunkering networks in the world<\/a>, including a fleet of bunkering vessels.<\/p>\n
