Spain\u2019s automotive industry took a significant step forward this week, as the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC), in collaboration with the Catalan Automotive Industry Cluster (CIAC), presented the Spain Auto 2030 Plan \u2013 a roadmap which looks to strengthen the industrial competitiveness of the Spanish auto industry, particularly in the context of the widespread shift to zero-emission vehicles.<\/p>\n
The gathering, hosted at CASA CUPRA Raval in Barcelona, brought together government ministers, automakers, and suppliers to outline a shared roadmap for the sector\u2019s transition to zero-emission mobility. High-profile attendees included the President of the Government of Catalonia Salvador Illa, SEAT & CUPRA CEO Markus Haupt, and the Secretary of State for Industry and SMEs Jordi Garc\u00eda Brustenga.<\/p>\n
The Spain Auto 2030 Plan identifies 25 priority measures, and has been developed by ANFAC alongside the Spanish Government\u2019s Ministry of Industry, in order to maintain Spain\u2019s position as the second largest auto manufacturer in Europe \u2013 surpassed only by Germany. The regional government of Catalonia\u2019s own PIVECAT electric vehicle promotion plan was also highlighted as a complement to the national roadmap, which sets out plans to triple EV adoption, and double the number of charging stations, by 2030 in Catalonia.<\/p>\n
Two panel discussions at the presentation explored the practical challenges ahead, covering topics from public charging infrastructure to supply chain resilience. Speakers consistently pointed to the need for faster EV adoption, expanded incentives, and closer coordination between industry and government to hit 2030 targets.<\/p>\n
With Spain positioning itself as a future hub for European electric vehicle production, the Barcelona event signalled that the country\u2019s automotive sector is aligning behind a single, ambitious direction. SEAT and CUPRA\u2019s overhauled Martorell facility<\/a> near Barcelona is one of the most clear signals of this, now producing a range of EVs for the Volkswagen Group including the CUPRA Raval<\/a> and Volkswagen ID.
