Her staging draws on circus, commedia dell’arte and street theatre – a natural fit for OperaCamion’s travelling spirit – filling the mobile stage with illusionists, acrobats, animal tamers and clowns.

The Orchestra of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma performs under conductor Alessandro Poleggi, with musical adaptation by Tommaso Chieco and Marco Giustini, sets by Daniele Leone and mime choreography by Chiara Casalbuoni. The cast features young singers, some drawn from the theatre’s own Fabbrica Young Artist Programme.

The project has built a devoted following. In 2025, OperaCamion attracted more than 10,000 attendees for Il barbiere di Siviglia and another 10,000 for Tosca. Around 40 per cent of those surveyed said it was the first time they had ever attended an opera.

This year’s tour ventures beyond Rome’s city limits for the first time, with a stop in Bracciano on 9 June in Piazza Mazzini, and the final performance in Valmontone on 17 June at Valmontone.

The inaugural performance takes place on Sunday 31 May at the Quarticciolo in Via dei Larici 4 — a symbolically apt starting point, as the neighbourhood houses the Teatro dell’Opera’s own warehouses.

All performances begin at 21.15. Admission is free, subject to availability.

OperaCamion is promoted by Roma Capitale and the Regione Lazio. The project was first staged in 2016 with a production of Figaro.

2026 calendar – Il barbiere di Siviglia

Sunday 31 May: Via dei Larici 4, Quarticciolo (Municipio V)

Wednesday 3 June: Cortile della Parrocchia del Corpus Domini, Massimina (Municipio XII)

Friday 5 June: Parcheggio di Via Leonida Repaci, Cinquina/Bufalotta (Municipio III)

Saturday 6 June: Via Benedetto Croce 50, Montagnola (Municipio VIII)

Tuesday 9 June: Piazza Mazzini, Bracciano

Wednesday 10 June: Via Fosso dell’Osa (fronte civico 338), Villaggio Prenestino (Municipio VI)

Saturday 13 June: Rotonda di Viale Antonio Gandin, Palmarola/Selva Candida (Municipio XIV)

Sunday 14 June: Piazza Sirio, Lido di Ostia (Municipio X)

Tuesday 16 June: Parcheggio del Mercato Rionale, Via Comte, Casal de’ Pazzi (Municipio IV)

Wednesday 17 June: Largo Brodolini, Valmontone

For further details see official website.

OperaCamion returns from 31 May to 17 June 2026.
