{"id":30196,"date":"2026-05-27T01:12:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T01:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/30196\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T01:12:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T01:12:19","slug":"alexia-putellas-ends-14-season-barcelona-career-after-fourth-champions-league-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/30196\/","title":{"rendered":"Alexia Putellas ends 14-season Barcelona career after fourth Champions League title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Two-time Ballon d&#8217;Or winner Alexia Putellas, who has helped women&#8217;s soccer grow in Spain and worldwide, is leaving Barcelona after 14 seasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Putellas will officially bid farewell at an event at Barcelona&#8217;s Camp Nou this week, giving the club a &#8220;chance to recognise the legacy created by a player who has become a role model on and off the field and who has helped women&#8217;s football to grow across the globe&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 32-year-old Putellas helped Barcelona win the Champions League title for the fourth time in six seasons last weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">There was no immediate announcement about her next move, with speculation in Spain that she might join the fast-emerging London City Lionesses. We dive into the biggest story of the day and get you up to speed with everything else that&#8217;s making headlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Putellas scored 232 goals for Barcelona, a club record, and won 38 trophies, including four Champions Leagues and 10 Spanish league titles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The time has come to acknowledge that I&#8217;ve given everything for these colours,&#8221; Putellas said in a video posted on her social media accounts. &#8220;It&#8217;s been a perfect story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She was Barcelona&#8217;s best player when it won its first Champions League in 2021 and helped put women&#8217;s soccer in Spain on the global map when she won back-to-back Ballon d&#8217;Or awards in 2021 and 2022.
