Anthony Gordon impressed Barcelona fans by attempting Catalan and not just Spanish at his unveiling as a new signing on Friday.<\/p>\n

Finalizing one of the fastest-to-complete transfers in recent memory, Anthony Gordon is now an FC Barcelona player after joining the Catalans in a reported $93 million deal<\/a> with Newcastle United.<\/p>\n Tied down until 2031, Gordon had to wait eight hours for his unveiling, with Bar\u00e7a giving members of the press that had been there since midday at the Joan Gamper CT headquarters burgers and fries to tame their hunger.<\/p>\n When he finally took to the stage in the evening with a Gordon 2031 Blaugrana shirt, however, the suited 25-year-old impressed both the media and Culers with the way he spoke.<\/p>\n \u201cI always wanted Bar\u00e7a. It\u2019s the biggest club on the planet. It\u2019s the stuff I dreamed of as a child. It really is a dream come true,\u201d Gordon said<\/a>.<\/p>\n He then showed off impressive Spanish fluency and was asked why this was the case.<\/p>\n \u201cI wanted to speak Spanish because as a kid I believed I would play for Bar\u00e7a, believe it or not,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI hac a [Spanish] physio in Newcastle and we spoke every day, and I told him one day I\u2019ll play for Bar\u00e7a, so I want to learn Spanish. So that’s how I speak some.\u201d<\/p>\n Anthony Gordon seems to understand FC Barcelona as a club<\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t just that, however, that endeared Gordon to Catalans. He had a go at their language by saying \u201cEstic molt feli\u00e7\u201d, which SPORT\u2019s Carlos Montfort liked in particular<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cAnthony Gordon leaves Barcelona fans speechless: after answering questions in perfect Spanish at the press conference, he also ventures into Catalan,\u201d Montfort noted.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2019I\u2019m very happy\u2019, says the new Bar\u00e7a winger after signing his contract until 2031,\u201d Montfort added.<\/p>\n Claiming to be a fan since he was three, Gordon showed that he understands Bar\u00e7a as a club and institution.<\/p>\n Twitter grinches moaned that he\u2019d not learned Catalan if he was so serious about donning Blaugrana.
