heatwave<\/a> gave way to thunderstorms on Thursday 4 June, with forecasts predicting between 40 and 60mm of rainfall in the space of an hour.<\/p>\nFans shared clips of the chaotic scenes as they tried to shelter from the worst of the weather, huddled in huge crowds under stage roofs while wearing plastic ponchos. <\/p>\n
Early in the evening, a statement shared to the festival\u2019s Instagram confirmed that sets from Alex G and Mac DeMarco had been cancelled due to \u201cadverse weather conditions\u201d. <\/p>\n
Organisers said they would continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates.<\/p>\n
Shortly before midnight, a second post announced that headline performances from Massive Attack, Bad Gyal and Doja Cat would not go ahead, due to a combination of adverse weather and technical conditions that would make the shows unsafe to stage. <\/p>\n

Other parts of the festival continued, with some stages reopening later in the night.<\/p>\n
Fans onsite complained of a \u201ctotal mess\u201d onsite with \u201cnowhere near enough staff\u201d and \u201cterrible crowd control\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one really knew what was going on,\u201d one attendee told The Independent. \u201cBecause they wouldn\u2019t let people into a couple of the main stage areas, everywhere was rammed \u2013 hellishly so under the roofs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen they announced at midnight that Massive Attack were going to play late, but then [the band] didn\u2019t\u2026 so people were waiting around for ages.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fan added that rock band Geese were among the artists who were able to perform: \u201cDare I say the rain added to the atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n

A statement sent to The Independent said that Primavera\u2019s festival organisers \u201cworked determinedly alongside the Massive Attack, Doja Cat and Bad Gyal teams to ensure that the performances on the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages could resume later that night\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cAt around 11:30pm, with a more favourable weather forecast, the festival announced that Massive Attack\u2019s performance would begin at 12:30am (having been originally scheduled for 9:55 pm), this being the intention of both the band and the festival.\u201d<\/p>\n
The spokesperson continued: \u201cUnfortunately, the rain, and particularly the wind persisted in the area around these stages, ultimately making it impossible, for safety reasons, for Massive Attack to perform.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement said organisers understood and shared \u201cthe frustration and disappointment\u201d of fans and said it was \u201cnot what we hoped for\u201d on the festival\u2019s first day.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thank the audience for their understanding and confirm that, despite the difficulty of the situation, there were no serious incidents,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Details regarding the refund process for Thursday tickets will be sent to guests on Monday (8 June), organisers said.<\/p>\n
