Knowing when to call 911 and when to use a non-emergency number can save lives. Avoid diverting resources needed in actual emergencies.<\/p>\n

The Jackson Police Department<\/a> is investigating the death of an 18-year-old male after the teenager died from injuries sustained in a shooting at a home on Valencia Street.<\/p>\n

Public Information Officer Tommie Brown<\/a> issued a press release April 11, stating Precinct 1 officers responded Wednesday, April 8, to a shooting at a residence in the 900 block of Valencia Street.<\/p>\n

According to police, four people were inside the residence at the time of the shooting.<\/a><\/p>\n

Brown said two people, a female and a male, were injured during the shooting.<\/p>\n

Brown said the female victim was transported to a local hospital and treated “for what appeared to be” non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

The male victim, identified as 18-year-old Joel Terrell, was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Terrell died Saturday from his injuries.<\/p>\n

The department’s robbery and homicide unit and mobile crime unit also responded to the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n

No suspect information was released by the time of this publication.<\/p>\n

According to the Clarion Ledger’s records, this marked the 19th homicide investigation in 2026 for the capital city.<\/p>\n
