{"id":39105,"date":"2026-06-12T11:15:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T11:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/39105\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T11:15:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T11:15:11","slug":"barcelona-and-shanghai-deepen-port-cooperation-on-digitalization-and-decarbonization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/39105\/","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona and Shanghai deepen port cooperation on digitalization and decarbonization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Port of Barcelona on 11 June hosted an institutional and business delegation from Shanghai, underscoring the close and ongoing collaboration between the two port systems.<\/p>\n<p>During the visit, a new strategic cooperation agreement was signed between the Port of Barcelona, the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission (SMTC), and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG).<\/p>\n<p>The agreement formalises a \u201csister ports\u201d relationship between Shanghai and Barcelona and is intended to strengthen cooperation in key areas including the digitalisation and security of port operations, the development of green ports and alternative fuels, improved intermodality<a href=\"https:\/\/safety4sea.com\/port-of-barcelona-and-shanghai-to-develop-green-digital-corridor\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> and the promotion of sustainable maritime corridors between the Far East and the Mediterranean.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The agreement was signed by Jos\u00e9 Alberto Carbonell, president of the Port of Barcelona; Xiao Hui, general director of the SMTC, and Yang ZhiYong, vice president of SIPG, in the presence of Jaume Duch, Regional Minister for European Union and Foreign Action.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between the Port of Barcelona and the Port of Shanghai <a href=\"https:\/\/safety4sea.com\/barcelona-and-shanghai-ports-partner-on-decarbonization-initiatives\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has intensified in recent years.<\/a> In late July 2025, a preliminary agreement was signed between both port authorities, which led to a technical visit in September 2025 by a delegation from Shanghai led by Wang Haijian, Vice President and Director of Operations of SIPG, to advance the development of the Green Shipping and Digital Corridor between both ports.<\/p>\n<p>The visit also included working meetings focused on strengthening commercial and logistics flows between China and Europe, as well as a tour of facilities in the Free Zone.
