{"id":41538,"date":"2026-06-16T15:44:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T15:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/41538\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T15:44:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T15:44:11","slug":"oscar-piastri-calls-for-mclaren-learnings-after-problematic-f1-barcelona-gp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/41538\/","title":{"rendered":"Oscar Piastri calls for McLaren learnings after &#8216;problematic&#8217; F1 Barcelona GP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oscar Piastri is relying on hope that he and McLaren can understand why it ran \u201cinto a lot of different problems\u201d at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2026\/barcelona-catalunya\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Woking-based squad showed some impressive pace in free practice at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, sparking some early predictions that it could perhaps challenge for the victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But qualifying saw Lando Norris managed a best of three tenths of pole position, with Piastri a further tenth behind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Norris did give the team another podium finish with third, but was over 20 seconds adrift of race-winner Lewis Hamilton, with Piastri almost a minute behind in fifth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the race, Piastri was asked if he had an understanding of where things fell away, but failed to grasp any comprehension of the causes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo, not really. I was trying a lot of different things and running into a lot of different problems, so I think just struggling a lot with grip, tyre life, obviously,\u201d he told media, including Motorsport Week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo I don\u2019t have any answers at the moment. I\u2019m sure there will be some answers later, but yeah, it was a surprise to struggle so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Oscar-Piastri-Barcelona-GP-1024x576.webp\" alt=\"Oscar Piastri finished fifth in Barcelona, nearly a whole minute down on Lewis Hamilton\" class=\"wp-image-249254\"  \/>Oscar Piastri finished fifth in Barcelona, nearly a whole minute down on Lewis Hamilton<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Piastri added that there were some inconsistent moments where the MCL40 felt better but concluding it would get worse as a result, concluding that \u201call I can hope is that we learn why it was so difficult from that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cObviously, the points we gained today were still reasonable, but obviously, I want the performance to be a lot stronger than it was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McLaren\u2019s Miami resurgence has begun to look like a false dawn, but will nevertheless hope for another next week in Austria.
