There is still much to play for during this campaign. Real Madrid, though, has been eliminated from Copa del Rey and might be chasing ghosts in LaLiga as it trails FC Barcelona by nine points.

Aside of the Champions League, Los Blancos have nothing…and that is exactly what makes them so dangerous in this game.

This is not a call to fear Real Madrid by any means, but to acknowledge that a desperate team with a bruised ego can sometimes express itself in one, defined moment — a singular effort where they can forget the previous failures of this campaign and turn their focus toward the one goal they have left.

The tough part for Real Madrid, though, is that it is matched up against one of the most dominant (if not the most dominant) squad in the world this season. Bayern Munich’s attack is incredible, its midfield is vastly underrated, and its defense has been…stable this season.

This is truly a blockbuster matchup pitting a somewhat forlorn version of the most successful club in the history of football vs. a squad hungry to snatch the proverbial crown.

More than anything, though, the outcome of this match will define how each of these teams are remembered by their respective fanbases.

Buckle up…this is going to be one wild ride.

Song of the Midweek: “Walk” by Pantera

Sometimes…you just need a song that makes your blood start flowing. What better day to do that than with Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid coming up on Wednesday.

Released in 1992 on the “Vulgar Display of Power” album, “Walk” pretty much steals the show whenever its played.

Let’s do this:

Entertainment Rundown

I have started watching The Boys (so far, eh…the story is not great, but I still can’t recall a better villain than the one portrayed by Antony Starr — Homelander) and will hopefully start to juggle Invincible and Daredevil: Born Again soon as well.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair

At the rate I am going, I might never get to this— or at least not any time soon. Luckily for me, though, Muller_Era did watch it and pulled together this bullet-style review of the classic Fox show.

As someone who fell in love with the show and its eccentricities, I was excited for the reboot. I went in with a few expectations. I wanted them to lean fully into every comedic gag and be what the original show was — an exaggerated, satirical take on what it meant to be the oddball lower middle class family in 2000s America.

Comedy is perhaps one of the most important parts of my life and the way I communicate. Malcolm in the Middle, amongst several movies and shows, taught me a lot about what I call absurdist comedy. Take up a mundane premise and exaggerate it to an extent that something like that would never happen in real life.

The value I find in a piece of comedy is not just the absurdity, but the dedication of the script and the screenplay to the bit. Without the dedication, your writing falls flat and in fact can be frustrating to audiences.

Dedication is multifaceted. It includes consistency of tone and narrative, the efforts actors put in carrying out the script and most importantly, belief. A script that is unsure of itself, will fall apart on the screen.

Now, onto the reboot. From the very start, the plots were as extreme and absurd as one would imagine. However, it felt as if the show couldn’t fully immerse itself in that.

It felt like their plan was to simply rely on nostalgia by showing that no character had changed as a person and that the plots were just as absurd as we were used to. “Hey, remember seeing this guy on the show? Yeah, he’s still around! We hope you laugh!”

I’m sure the writers were not being insincere or half-hearted. It is just that cramming in a larger-than-life premise within four episodes was impractical. For a show whose comedy was the reason I’d fallen for it, the reboot had fallen flat in the same department.

What I did really enjoy was the character arc they gave to Hal. They gave him a well-deserved, extremely well-written bizarre plot line that somehow ended on a poetic note about identity, love and moving on.

Another facet was that the presence of a queer character did not feel forced at all. It did not feel like they were checking off the boxes to be an inclusive show; rather it felt like a natural part of the plot that worked well.

Had the reboot been given more episodes, it could’ve turned out better. But honestly? I liked it for what it was. A nostalgic experience with a few laughs, a few tears and lots of throwbacks.

P.S. They should’ve really brought back Cynthia. Best character on that show.

Rating: 7.50 / 10.00

Big thanks to Muller_Era for the review!

Podcast Appearance — Magazines and Monsters

If you are looking for some entertainment, I will be be appearing on an episode of the Magazines and Monsters Podcast where we break down the 80s classic, The Lost Boys. The one variable that sways into Bayern Munich’s favor is that Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Díaz have not really been shutdown or even slowed down this season when together.

<p
