The former McLaren driver, who spoke via a gambling platform, largely focused on the victory the seven-time champion claimed for the Scuderia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/f1-teams\/ferrari\" title=\"Ferrari\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ferrari<\/a> team at the Catalunya circuit.Montoya suggested that the win sent a clear message to the rest of the grid that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/f1-teams\/mercedes\" title=\"Mercedes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mercedes<\/a> are not untouchable, while also noting that Hamilton is beginning to make his presence felt again in a Ferrari that now looks more competitive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLewis Hamilton\u2019s win has broken the perception that Mercedes is unbeatable,\u201d Montoya explained. \u201cPeople are excited because somebody threatened Mercedes. There is another dimension now. Montoya, however, was quick to flag concerns over the Ferrari power unit, something he believes could be a deciding factor in how the campaign unfolds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to wait for Spa to get a clearer picture,\u201d he said. \u201cAt the moment, the reliability of the Ferrari is for sure better. But they know they\u2019re down on power,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the weekend in Austria, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/news\/cause-of-championship-leader-antonellis-shock-spanish-gp-dnf-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hamilton currently trails Antonelli in the drivers\u2019 standings by 41 points<\/a> following his victory in Barcelona. The outing, which saw Hamilton claim his maiden victory with the Ferrari outfit, also marked an end to the five-race winning streak which Antonelli had been on.Ferrari told to back Hamilton over Leclerc in 2026 title fightWhile Montoya appears measured on the prospect of Hamilton putting up a challenge for the title, one individual who believes the British driver is in the title race is Jacques Villeneuve, and the Canadian has urged the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/news\/ferrari-told-to-back-hamilton-over-leclerc-in-2026-title-fight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ferrari outfit to back Hamilton to clinch the drivers\u2019 championship.<\/a>The 1997 world champion, in his assessment, noted how Hamilton currently presents the Maranello outfit\u2019s best chance of winning an elusive drivers\u2019 championship, hence prioritising him over teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/f1-drivers\/charles-leclerc\" title=\"Charles Leclerc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charles Leclerc<\/a> would be a sensible decision in the opinion of the 55-year-old.
