Barcelona are looking to make a sale official<\/a> before 30 June to help with the club\u2019s accounts before the financial year closes.<\/p>\n

At such a time, any monetary benefit, big or small, could go a long way in helping the club, and it looks like they are set to receive such a boost.<\/p>\n

Now, Barcelona are set to receive around \u20ac400,000 from former La Masia midfielder Sergi Altimira\u2019s transfer from Real Betis to Sporting CP.<\/p>\n

Indeed, according to Mundo Deport<\/a>i<\/a>vo<\/a>, Betis have agreed to sell the midfielder to the Portuguese club for a fixed \u20ac18.5 million, plus another \u20ac2 million in variables.<\/p>\n

The money coming Barcelona\u2019s way is linked to the solidarity mechanism, as Altimira spent part of his development in the club\u2019s youth academy before later moving to Sabadell.<\/p>\n

La Masia keeps producing value<\/p>\n

Altimira joined Betis from Getafe in 2023 after the Andalusian club paid his \u20ac2 million release clause. Now, only three years later, he is moving to Sporting in a deal that could rise beyond \u20ac20 million.<\/p>\n

For Barcelona, this is another reminder that La Masia does not only create value through players who reach the first team.<\/p>\n

Sometimes the value arrives years later, through training rights, solidarity payments and the wider reputation of the academy.<\/p>\n

Altimira was not part of Bar\u00e7a\u2019s senior plans, but his development still carries a financial return for the club.<\/p>\n

Sabadell are also expected to receive money because he continued his development there until the age of 22.<\/p>\n

That is how the system should work. Clubs that help shape players at key ages deserve to benefit when those careers grow.<\/p>\n

Small money, useful timing<\/p>\n

The \u20ac400,000 will not transform Barcelona\u2019s summer. It will not fund a major signing or change the club\u2019s transfer strategy.<\/p>\n

However, for today\u2019s Bar\u00e7a, working under financial pressure, trying to manage registrations, wages and squad changes while also strengthening Hansi Flick\u2019s team, every small bit counts.<\/p>\n

The academy is not only about producing stars like Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi or Fermin Lopez. It is also an ecosystem that keeps giving back to the club in different ways.<\/p>\n
