June 29 (UPI) — Polish striker Robert Lewandowski agreed to sign with the Chicago Fire.<\/p>\n
Sources told The Athletic<\/a>, ESPN<\/a> and the BBC<\/a> about the pact Sunday night. Lewandowski is expected to sign a two-year pact with the MLS club, which he will join this summer.\n<\/p>\n Lewandowski’s contract with La Liga power FC Barcelona expired after the 2025-26 campaign. He spent the last four seasons with the Spanish giants. That run included three La Liga titles.<\/p>\n Lewandowski also totaled 10 Bundesliga titles through his successful runs with German clubs Borussia Dortmund and Bayern. He won a Champions League crown with Bayern in 2020.<\/p>\n He is now set to join an MLS club led by former United States Men’s National Team coach Gregg Berhalter. The Fire (8-4-2), who sit in third place in the MLS’ Eastern Conference, finished eighth last season and lost in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs.<\/p>\n That postseason berth marked the Fire’s first playoff appearance since 2017.<\/p>\n The Fire, who will host the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 16 in Chicago, are set to open a new stadium — dubbed McDonald’s Park — in 2028.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is set to join the Chicago Fire this summer.
