Barcelona are closely monitoring the future of former academy defender Sergi Dom\u00ednguez, with Lazio emerging as one of the clubs pushing to sign the 21-year-old centre-back from Dinamo Zagreb, reports SPORT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although the Catalan club have no plans to bring the defender back, they stand to benefit financially, thanks to a sell-on clause included in his transfer last summer.<\/p>\n

Barcelona could profit from sale<\/p>\n

When Dominguez left Barcelona for Dinamo Zagreb in a deal worth \u20ac1.2 million, the Blaugrana retained 20% of the profit from any future transfer.<\/p>\n

If the Croatian side eventually sells him for around \u20ac9\u201310 million, Barcelona would stand to receive close to \u20ac2 million for the former La Masia defender, providing a welcome financial boost as the club continues to manage its wage bill.<\/p>\n

Gennaro Gattuso eyeing Dominguez<\/p>\n

New Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso has identified central defence as one of his top priorities during the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n

With Alessio Romagnoli expected to leave and Mario Gila also attracting interest, the Italian club are looking to rebuild their back line with younger players capable of developing into long-term starters.<\/p>\n

Dominguez, therefore, is considered an ideal fit for that project thanks to his age, physical profile and progress since moving to Croatia.<\/p>\n

Lazio have already submitted an initial offer believed to be worth around \u20ac5 million plus bonuses.<\/p>\n

However, Dinamo Zagreb rejected the proposal and are holding out for at least \u20ac10 million before agreeing to sell the defender.<\/p>\n

While the asking price is considered high by the Italian club, it is not viewed as impossible if Lazio complete player sales during the remainder of the transfer window.<\/p>\n

Tottenham also interested<\/p>\n

Lazio are not alone in the race. Tottenham have also made contact with Dinamo Zagreb<\/a> to enquire about Dominguez\u2019s availability as they look to strengthen their own defence after a difficult campaign.<\/p>\n

Competition between the two clubs could increase the final transfer fee, which would also benefit Barcelona because of the percentage they retained from a future sale.<\/p>\n

For Barcelona, the situation represents an opportunity to generate unexpected income from a player who left the club with little fanfare.<\/p>\n
