Red indicates an &#8216;extreme risk&#8217; of wildfires.(Image: aemet.es)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Parts of <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/spain\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Spain<\/a> are on red alert for scorching temperatures as the country declares a heatwave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Temperatures of up to 44C are forecast in the southern Valencia region where a red alert has been issued by Aemet for Tuesday, July 7, Spain\u2019s national <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-weather\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">weather<\/a> agency. Red warnings are also in force in parts of the north east, where highs of 42C are forecast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Huge swathes of Spain are set to experience temperatures surpassing 40C. Most of the country is covered in yellow and amber weather warnings, including holiday hotspots Alicante where highs of 39C are forecast tomorrow and Barcelona, where the mercury is expected to reach 34C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"Click hereLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=b8052254-66af-41f3-9dae-7bbb0e3391c6&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> to get the biggest stories straight to your inbox in our Daily Newsletter<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Yellow temperature alerts have also been issued for the Balearic Islands, where highs of 38C are forecast. Looking ahead to Wednesday, no red alerts have been issued so far but yellow and amber warnings remain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Forecasters issued a heatwave notice which came into effect on Sunday, July 5 and remains in place until \u201cat least Wednesday July 8\u201d. It added that the heatwave could end on Wednesday or last until Thursday, as there \u201cis a high degree of uncertainty regarding the extent and duration of the phenomenon, due to the changing position of the cut-off low.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Aemet\u2019s fire risk maps indicate that the majority of the country is under an \u2018extreme risk\u2019 of wildfires, particularly the north, the west coast and the eastern regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The UK Foreign Office warns that wildfires can happen often in Spain, particularly during the summer months. It states that UK travellers should \u201cbe aware of their environment when visiting and driving through woodland areas\u201d. It adds: \u201cCausing a wildfire is a criminal offence in Spain, even if unintentional. Make sure cigarette ends are properly extinguished, do not light barbecues and do not leave empty bottles behind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cYou can be heavily fined for not following the rules against lighting outdoor barbecues in forest areas. Highs of 37C are forecast for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Canary Islands government has declared a state of pre-alert for maximum temperatures throughout the archipelago. It warns: \u201cA multi-day heatwave is expected to begin on Sunday in the eastern islands and gradually spread to the rest of the archipelago over the next week, particularly from Tuesday onwards. The analyzed weather models show a consistent trend towards a heatwave associated with a mass of warm air originating in Africa, initially affecting Gran Canaria and extending to inland areas of Fuerteventura on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe heatwave is expected to intensify from Monday, gradually spreading to the rest of the archipelago, with the most significant impact between Tuesday and Thursday.
