MASON CITY, Iowa \u2014 A Mason City police officer and another driver were hurt Tuesday in a multi-vehicle collision at an intersection while the officer was responding to an emergency call.<\/p>\n
It happened around 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth Street Southeast and South Kentucky Avenue. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says Officer Wilfredo Almendarez Valencia, 27, was driving a marked police SUV southbound on South Kentucky Avenue with his emergency lights and siren on when he collided with a car driven by Brian Anderson, 56 of Mason City.<\/p>\n
Deputies say Anderson was traveling westbound through the intersection when the police vehicle hit the passenger side of his car. The impact caused Anderson’s car to spin into a third vehicle driven by Karry Graney, 56 of Mason City.<\/p>\n
Almendarez Valencia and Anderson were treated at the scene for injuries that were not life-threatening. Another Mason City police officer then took Almendarez Valencia to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center for further evaluation. Anderson declined to be taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n
Graney was not hurt in the crash.<\/p>\n
The Mason City Fire Department,Mason City Paramedics, and the Mason City Police Department assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n
