{"id":53852,"date":"2026-07-11T19:28:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T19:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/53852\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T19:28:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T19:28:11","slug":"liverpool-transfer-news-fsg-make-contact-to-sign-brazilian-star-after-dramatic-u-turn-because-of-real-madrid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/53852\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool transfer news: FSG \u2018make contact\u2019 to sign Brazilian star after dramatic U-turn because of Real Madrid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/liverpool\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool<\/a> have made a move to bring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/joao-gomes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joao Gomes<\/a> to Anfield, according to the Brazilian media, which has also underlined Real Madrid\u2019s role in the deal between Wolves and Atletico Madrid falling through.<\/p>\n<p>On March 17, our transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/news\/joao-gomes-transfer-news-manchester-united-liverpool-battle-wolves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool\u2019s interest in signing Gomes from Wolves<\/a> in the summer of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>We reported at the time that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/manchester-united\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Man Utd<\/a> were also keen on the 25-year-old midfielder, who has earned 10 caps for Brazil so far in his career.<\/p>\n<p>However, Atletico Madrid eventually stole a march on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/liverpool\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool<\/a> and Man Utd and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/news\/atletico-madrid-transfer-news-joao-gomes-man-utd-wolves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">got a deal done with Wolves for Gomes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The deal, though, has fallen through, with Graeme Bailey reporting on July 11 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/manchester-united\/ederson-transfer-still-on-contact-made-manu-kone-joao-gomes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">that Man Utd are back in contact for Gomes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Brazilian news outlet <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ge.globo.com\/futebol\/futebol-internacional\/noticia\/2026\/07\/10\/united-desiste-de-ederson-e-sinaliza-interesse-em-joao-gomes-liverpool-tambem-faz-contato.ghtml\" target=\"_blank\">Globo<\/a>, too, has reported that Man Utd have made contact for Gomes, and so have Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>The headline of the report reads: \u2018Manchester United give up on Ederson and signal interest in Joao Gomes; Liverpool also make contact.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The report has stated that both Man Utd and Liverpool have \u2018made contact after the deal between Atl\u00e9tico de Madrid and Joao Gomes fell through.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Globo has further noted: \u2018Both Liverpool and Manchester United contacted Wolverhampton to inquire about pricing and business models. Atl\u00e9tico Madrid had agreed to buy him for 45 million euros\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">DON\u2019T MISS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/liverpool\/inter-milan-third-curtis-jones-bid-liverpool-reach-decision-signing-replacement-exclusive\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Inter Milan to make third Curtis Jones bid as Liverpool reach decision on signing replacement \u2013 Exclusive<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Joao Gomes to Liverpool possible because of Real Madrid<\/p>\n<p>According to Globo, Liverpool have got a chance to sign Gomes because of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/tag\/real-madrid\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Real Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Atletico have pulled the plug on a deal for the Brazilian because super-agent Jorge Mendes took Bernardo Silva to bitter city rivals Real Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>Diego Simeone\u2019s side wanted to sign Silva as a free agent following his departure from Manchester City at the end of last season.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was Madrid who got a deal done for the Portuguese star, leaving Atletico unhappy and deciding to cancel the agreed deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/wolves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wolves<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Globo has explained: \u2018At the end of last season, Manchester United resumed contact with Joao Gomes, but his move to Atletico de Madrid was already decided.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Joao didn\u2019t go to Atl\u00e9tico de Madrid only because, after everything was agreed between the parties, it was due to a move by the Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Mendes opened negotiations to transfer Bernardo Silva, whose contract with Manchester City was expiring, also to Atletico de Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s worth noting that Bernardo Silva\u2019s negotiation came after Joao\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The problem is that after everything was in place for Bernardo to sign with Atletico de Madrid, Jorge Mendes changed his plans and closed a deal with arch-rival Real Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This angered Atl\u00e9tico\u2019s management, who reacted by abandoning the signing of Joao Gomes.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Liverpool\u2019s quest to sign Gomes from Wolves in the summer transfer window will be boosted by the midfielder\u2019s desire to play for Andoni Iraola\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2022, when Gomes was still playing for Flamengo, he publicly said that he would love to play for Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he would play for Liverpool or if he prefers another Premier League team, Gomes said: \u201cLiverpool is a team I would play for.
