One more\u00a0World Cup<\/a> match is coming to North Texas.<\/p>\n

Dallas Stadium will host Spain vs. France in a World Cup semifinal match at 2 p.m. next Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 and France haven\u2019t trailed at all at this year\u2019s World Cup. Neither has Spain with teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and clutch goal-scoring substitute Mikel Merino. Only one of those teams can make it to the final July 19 in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Prices for the cheapest tickets to the semifinal at Dallas Stadium have dropped by 60% since the United States lost in the round of 16, but that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re cheap<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What to know about France<\/p>\n

France defeated Morocco 2-0 in a quarterfinal matchup Thursday<\/a>, securing a spot in the Arlington semifinal. Mbapp\u00e9, the 2022 Golden Boot winner, netted his eighth goal of the tournament to open the scoring, tying him with Lionel Messi in the race for this year\u2019s Golden Boot. He is now one away from tying the Argentine atop the all-time World Cup goals list (Messi has 21 goals in 31 World Cup games).\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old Mbapp\u00e9 has 20 goals in his 20 World Cup matches, including one in the 2018 win over Croatia when he joined Pele as the only teenagers to score in a World Cup final. And the star striker for Les Bleus had said he is fine despite exiting in the 77th minute of their 2-0 quarterfinal win over Morocco after scoring a goal.<\/p>\n

After entering this tournament as FIFA\u2019s top-ranked team, France has outscored its opponents 14-2.<\/p>\n

What to know about Spain<\/p>\n

Merino\u00a0scored in the 88th minute<\/a> on a rebound yielded by backup Belgium goalkeeper Senne Lammens, and Spain advanced to the World Cup semifinals with a 2-1 victory on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Spain has outscored opponents 10-1 since a stunning scoreless draw against surprising Cape Verde to open group play, La Roja is still alive after Merino had late decisive goals after subbing into each of the last two games.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yamal has only one goal while putting 10 shots on target after coming into this World Cup still nursing a left hamstring issue that forced him to miss the final weeks of the season for Spanish club Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Spain and France\u2019s World Cup history<\/p>\n

France and Spain are both playing at their 17th World Cup, but have met only once previously on soccer\u2019s biggest stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yamal, who turned 19 on Monday, has already been part of two semifinal wins with Spain over France. He was just days shy of his 17th birthday when he scored in a 2-1 win during the 2024 European Championship semifinals, and Spain won again in Nations League play last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe if France has to fear anyone, it should be us, in my opinion,\u201d Yamal said after Spain\u2019s quarterfinal victory over Belgium. \u201cWe were the ones that knocked them out before.\u201d<\/p>\n

In their only previous World Cup meeting, France beat Spain 3-1 in a round of 16 game at the 2006 tournament in Germany.\u00a0Both teams have since won the World Cup, with Spain claiming its only title in 2010. France won its second World Cup in 2018.<\/p>\n

France, which will be playing on its country\u2019s Bastille Day national holiday, is trying to join five-time champion Brazil and four-time winner Germany as the only teams to make three consecutive World Cup finals. Argentina beat France in a penalty shootout in 2022 after playing to a 3-3 draw.<\/p>\n

This is France\u2019s seventh semifinal appearance, its fifth in the last eight World Cups. Spain\u2019s only other semifinals were in 1950 and then 2010 on the way to the title.<\/p>\n
