Simon, 29, is the second Spanish goalkeeper to win the award after Iker Casillas in 2010, the only other time that the nation has won the World Cup.<\/p>\n
The Golden Glove award was introduced in 1994 and originally called the Lev Yashin award, after the legendary Soviet goalkeeper, before being renamed in 2010.<\/p>\n
Entering the final, Simon had kept six clean sheets, the most at a single World Cup by any goalkeeper in the tournament\u2019s history, with Belgium\u2019s Charles De Ketelaere the only player to breach the Spanish defence. In the final, Simon had little to do as Argentina registered only two shots in 120 minutes of action, with neither troubling the Athletic Club goalkeeper.<\/p>\n
Simon\u2019s tally of nine total clean sheets across all his World Cup appearances puts him just one behind the record of 10 shared by Peter Shilton and Fabian Barthez.<\/p>\n
Cubarsi, the 19-year-old Barcelona defender, played every minute of the tournament, in a Spanish defence which conceded just once in the entirety of the tournament.<\/p>\n
This summer\u2019s World Cup was Cubarsi\u2019s first major international tournament, having not been in Luis de la Fuente\u2019s squad for Euro 2024, though he was part of Spain\u2019s Olympic gold medal-winning squad in Paris that year.<\/p>\n
He formed an impressive central-defensive partnership alongside the more experienced Aymeric Laporte, having replaced Robin Le Normand \u2014 who featured throughout Spain\u2019s successful Euro 2024 run \u2014 and been selected in the squad ahead of Real Madrid\u2019s Dean Huijsen.<\/p>\n

Mbappe scored or registered an assist in each of France\u2019s matches on their way to the semi-finals, before they were defeated 2-0 by Spain.
