President Donald Trump<\/a> has shared a newly edited video from the World Cup final that removes his awkward moment with the winning team. \u200b<\/p>\n

Trump joined FIFA President Gianni Infantino<\/a> on stage at New Jersey\u2019s MetLife Stadium to hand Spain the winning trophy after they defeated Argentina on Sunday. <\/p>\n

After the trophy was handed over, Spain\u2019s captain Rodri appeared to gesture for Trump to move on<\/a> but the president lingered at the edge of the stage until he was ushered off by Infantino while the team celebrated their big win. <\/p>\n

The incident was widely mocked online but the president has nonetheless celebrated his appearance with a new post on his Truth Social platform<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The 24 second clip keeps the trophy presentation and Trump shaking some of the players\u2019 hands but cuts off before the president stands at the edge of the stage. <\/p>\n

Another moment left on the cutting room floor was the Spanish team\u2019s actual celebration, which saw a cannon blasting golden confetti into the air. As the confetti rained down around them, the Spanish players jumped and cheered as the crowd erupted. \u200b<\/p>\n

On X, in an image<\/a> of the trophy lift shared by the Spanish national team, Trump was notably absent. He was also missing in a photograph<\/a> shared by FIFA\u2019s account on X and was booed during the final<\/a> itself.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the tournament the president sparked controversy after he admitted calling Infantino over U.S. striker Folarin Balogun\u2019s red card<\/a> during the United States\u2019 match with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Trump said that he had called to \u201cwage a complaint,\u201d with Balogun\u2019s one match ban suspended for a year.<\/p>\n

Infantino has insisted that the process was overseen by independent bodies within FIFA<\/a> and FIFA described the move<\/a> as a \u201ca balanced measure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump was handed the first-ever \u2018FIFA Peace Prize\u2019<\/a> late last year, shortly after the Nobel Peace Prize the president covets was handed to Venezuelan activist Mar\u00eda Corina Machado<\/a> instead. <\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s World Cup win comes as the country\u2019s relationship with the U.S. has become increasingly strained. In recent weeks<\/a>, Trump has branded Spain a \u201cwasted cause\u201d, a \u201cterrible partner in NATO\u201d and suggested the U.S. should cut off all trade<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Trump has long complained about Spain\u2019s military spending<\/a>, with the European country refusing last year to adopt a new goal of spending 5 percent of its GDP on defense by 2035. \u200b<\/p>\n
