\u201cI finished the season with Barcelona and the idea was to leave on loan or permanently, but I never thought I would end up in Croatia. I thought I would play in the Spanish second division,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The move ultimately came about after conversations with Albert Capellas, the former La Masia coordinator now working with Dinamo Zagreb.<\/p>\n
Dominguez also revealed that Dani Olmo\u2019s career path gave him confidence that leaving Barcelona did not necessarily mean closing the door forever.<\/p>\n
\u201cI spoke to him before coming here. Dani came here, then went to Leipzig and then returned to Barcelona. That\u2019s why I thought about him because, in the end, my dream is to play at home again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The defender then made his ambitions crystal clear.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy ultimate goal is to come back home and play for Barcelona. Hopefully it can happen. It\u2019s difficult, but I\u2019ll try. I still have time,\u201d Dominguez said.<\/p>\n
Barcelona\u2019s style still feels like home<\/p>\n
Despite adapting to Croatian football, Dominguez believes Dinamo\u2019s playing style has helped him continue developing in a familiar environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cDinamo\u2019s playing philosophy and Barcelona\u2019s are very similar. Almost identical: 4-3-3, playing out from the back, high pressing. <\/p>\n
\u201cObviously there are differences in the facilities and the budget, but Barcelona are, in my opinion, the best team in Europe,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
The centre-back also explained where he feels he has improved most over the past year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve improved without the ball. I\u2019ve gained experience in duels, in terms of aggression and positioning. It\u2019s a tougher league in that respect,\u201d the 21-year-old said.<\/p>\n
Full of praise for his former teammates<\/p>\n
Dominguez admitted he would love the opportunity to face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League one day.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would be funny, above all, to play against Barcelona. I\u2019d be facing friends of mine and all the members of the coaching staff that I know,\u201d he exclaimed.<\/p>\n

Among those friends are Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal, two La Masia graduates who have become established stars in recent years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal have done isn\u2019t normal. It\u2019s crazy. Cubarsi, at 19 years old, was one of the best players in Spain and at the World Cup. <\/p>\n
\u201cLamine has also played an important role. Every time he gets the ball, it feels like something is going to happen,\u201d Dominguez concluded.<\/p>\n
The future looks bright for Dominguez<\/p>\n
Bar\u00e7a included a sell-on clause when they sold Dominguez, which could help them sign the Spaniard in the future should they wish to do so.<\/p>\n
The priority right now, though, is for the 21-year-old to continue developing in his career and carrying the momentum into his second season in Croatia.<\/p>\n
Even if a return to Barcelona seems far-fetched at the moment, the best way to force the club into making that decision will be through performances.<\/p>\n
The Blaugrana will benefit from keeping a close eye on the Spaniard\u2019s development and, hopefully, he could return to the club like Olmo in the future.<\/p>\n
