We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p>A British woman badly injured in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/spain-wildfires-british-trapped-risk-b3014777.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a massive wildfire in Spain<\/a> has died, while her partner remains in a critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Fryett passed away on 28 July, surrounded by her family in Spain, after more than two weeks in hospital.<\/p>\n<p>She and her partner, Simon Batchelor, were critically injured after being caught in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/bedar-place-in-the-sun-fires-b3014325.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a devastating blaze near Bedar and Los Gallardos<\/a> in southern Spain. <\/p>\n<p>The couple, from Canvey, Essex, were rescued from a mountainside on 10 July, the day after the fire erupted.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Fryett\u2019s son, Alfie Batchelor, paid tribute to his mother, describing her as the \u201cbest person ever\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said that her death \u201cstill doesn\u2019t feel real\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Jam_Press_JMP897582.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Lisa Fryett has died in hospital in Spain\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Lisa Fryett has died in hospital in Spain (Jam Press)<\/p>\n<p>He wrote: \u201cYou were my world. I\u2019m so grateful to be able to call you my mum and I will forever love you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will cherish every memory I have with you and I will never forget you. I miss you so much and always will.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what I\u2019m going to do without you. My life has completely changed and I will forever make you proud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRest in peace, Mum.
